Surviving Interesting Times

Friday, August 27th, 2010

by Jeff Brasher, ServNet President

An old adage, “May you live in interesting times” can certainly be applied to our industry. The only thing we can be certain of is change. The economy continues to waiver while the used car market fluctuates, making our efforts to identify trends and forecast the future an interesting–sometimes daunting, even frustrating–experience, especially for those who are new to the industry or who are looking for quick solutions to the challenges we face.

Operating some of the longest-running and most successful auto auction facilities in the country, ServNet auction owners are no strangers to the ups and downs of the market. We have faced challenges before and have experienced positive outcomes in the face of those challenges. ServNet auctions continue to move forward, building their market share, developing new opportunities for buyer ands sellers, improving procedures and offering innovative tools and processes to help their customers successfully remarket their vehicles.

Embracing the competitive advances in technology, ServNet auctions have recorded increases in vehicles sales on a number of upstream and video streaming internet platforms, with total online sales for 2010 soon to outpace those of 2009 overall. As independent facilities, ServNet auctions offer their customers the benefit of flexibility when it comes to internet sales, making available to individual customers the exact channel that best represents the vehicles being offered for sale including AuctionPipeline, (more…)

Monday, May 17th, 2010

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — The ServNet Auction Group recently hosted its first Meet the Owners event of 2010, kicking off this year’s series of meetings with a gathering in Dallas earlier this month.

As some may know, the Meet the Owners meetings are designed to strengthen the relationships that the owners of ServNet’s 22 independent auctions have with remarketers.ServNet Auctions

Attending the Dallas meeting — which was hosted by ServNet president Jeff Brasher, the owner of Brasher’s Reno Auto Auction, and ServNet chief executive officer Pierre Pons — were representatives from the following remarketers: Chrysler Financial, GMAC, Mercedes Benz Credit, AmeriCredit, Hertz, Santander Consumer USA, American Honda Finance and Wells Fargo Dealer Services.

During the event, these remarketers engaged in discussion with auction owners and members of ServNet’s executive staff.

As part of welcoming attendees, Pons and Brasher emphasized the ServNet members’ strengths, which they cite as the following: long-term, multi-generational, independent ownership; established business practices; well-maintained facilities; and cutting edge technology.AuctionPipeline

“A strong Internet presence and online selling capabilities are essential in today’s marketplace,” Brasher noted. “ServNet auctions stand among the leaders in the industry with online tools that not only facilitate inventory searches, but offer simulcast auction selling through a variety of channels, including AuctionPipeline, which was created and developed by a team of ServNet auctions to deliver comprehensive online buying and selling capabilities.”

Brasher Begins Term as ServNet President

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

RENO, Nev. — When it comes to the auction business, Jeff Brasher has seen it all. He opened Brasher’s Reno Auto Auction eight years ago in Nevada, but his remarketing experience goes far beyond that and includes everything from paint and body shop work to finance and collections.Jeff Brasher

And after 19 years of working full time in the industry, Brasher begins his role as president of ServNet — a group he has worked with for many years — this month.

To shed some light on his goals for his presidency and a bit more of his background in the industry, Brasher, who is the owner and general manager of his facility in Reno, recently talked with Auto Remarketing.

Growing up in Salt Lake City, Brasher began helping out during the early days of summer at his family’s auction — Brasher’s Salt Lake Auto Auction — at the age of 10. He spent his teenage years working in the auction’s detail shops, and by 15 he was doing paint and body work.

After a two-year mission for his church, Brasher did finance and collections work for the auction for five years, beginning at age 21. Then in 2001, he opened the facility in Reno, Nev.ServNet Auction

And in his new role, Brasher will lead the ServNet organization with which he shares a long history.

“I’ve been involved with the group for so long, I’m just excited to continue working with the guys,” he told Auto Remarketing, later adding, “I started attending ServNet meetings in my late teens, just rubbing shoulders and meeting people. It’s always been like a 20 Group atmosphere where we bounce ideas off each other … and that’s been a good resource for me.”

He added: “It’s a great best practices format; it’s a great networking format for clients.” (more…)
